5 things to do at the start of the month

Keep moving ahead because action creates momentum, which in turn creates unanticipated opportunities.Nick Vujicic

It’s the beginning of a new month and I feel like the year has gone by so fast! Before we dive into the new month, we wanted to share with you 5 things to do at the start of the month, this one or any other. First, I think the start of the month is a great time to do some reflection on the month that just passed so that you can prepare to embrace the new month. This reflection can also give you an opportunity to do better with a fresh start.

Plan your month- This could be with any meetings, events, projects or deadlines that you have ahead of you. Planning your month helps you to stay organised and avoid any headache down the road. You can do this with work projects in form of work plans, and you’ll see it makes it so much easier. For personal projects, you can use hard copy planners or from applications.

Set specific goals– Setting short-term goals at the start of the month will eventually help you to achieve your long-term goals. For example, ever heard of the 21-day rule? Setting a goal and carrying it out for 21 straight days can help it become a part of your normal routine. If you set a goal of reading a chapter of a book every day, this will eventually become a habit with time and you will get closer to a long-term goal, for example, to become more knowledgeable and have your vocabulary improve.

Pay bills- It is important to get some of these things out of the way at the beginning of the month. It could be with house rent, electricity or water and so on. I also realised that it is important to purchase some things before they actually run out because we might end up forgetting later on or we might have spent that money (carelessly) elsewhere. During this time, you can also have a budget prepared and I found out that having knowledge on such lessons, for example, attending a financial education class can really help you manage money well.

Have an office day! You know that stuff that piles up all month long and sort of makes us feel like we are losing it? Now could be a good time to do all the boring office-esque stuff. This could be shredding some unnecessary papers, deleting unneeded emails, organising the top of your desk or inside the desk drawer or even filing your documents.

Purchase birthday gifts- Scrambling to get birthday gifts right before the day of or on the birthday can be quite a daunting task. No one wants that. The start of the month is a good time to prepare and shop for any upcoming birthdays within the month. This gives you more time to settle on what to get them without feeling pressured.
